CATH AND FIONA
I have written so many poems for friends that have passed this year,
Fiona now, Cath—
They were both so very dear.
Another very large void to have to bear,
No more meeting in town, special moments to share.
Holidays in Brugge, our special place,
Mountains in Austria, what a delightful base.
We even stayed in a castle near Paris, France,
Walking down the stairs in those dresses—wow, what a glance.
On a summer’s day in Victoria Park,
The birds were singing, the fans were chanting in the dark.
Leicester City had won the Premier League, a dream come true,
There was Cath standing with her flag, with me and you.
There are so many memories, all I want to do is sleep,
But I have to wake up—God has taken you away, we couldn’t keep.
No more meeting in town, that day has gone,
The pub in town where we were singing the song.
But whatever, and however rough the weeks will be,
Not even God can take away the memories of you and me.
It will not be long until we meet once again,
The Bible declares the last days, but we do not know when.
When our Heavenly Father’s plan comes to be,
Everlasting life—eternity.
You and Fiona will come knocking at my door,
In perfect health, no more tears, death, or pain anymore.
A glorious future under Jesus Christ the King,
Injustice gone forever—that will be the thing.
I cannot wait to see you both, I will jump for joy,
The lion and the lamb and the little boy.
In God’s new world, together forever.
